Children Hospitalized after San Antonio Collision

Two children and two adults were among those transported to the hospital following a head-on collision in west San Antonio on Monday afternoon.

About the San Antonio Accident

According to the San Antonio Express-News, a Dodge SUV was traveling eastbound on Culebra Road when it was struck head-on by a Ford F-150. Authorities state the driver of the F-150 had fallen asleep behind the wheel and drifted into oncoming traffic.

Four occupants of the SUV, two children, ages 2 and 4, and their mother and grandmother, were transported to the hospital. A 2-month-old that was in the vehicle was uninjured.

Authorities took the detained the driver of the F-150 and are trying to determine if the man was intoxicated at the time of the incident.

  • 3,377 people were killed in traffic collisions in 2013 – a 1.05-percent decline from the 3,413 deaths recorded in 2012.
  • 523 deaths were attributed to head-on collisions in 2013.
  • Another 232,041 people were injured in auto accidents in 2013.
  • Alcohol was determined to be a factor in 1,089 traffic fatalities in 2013.
