Tina Robinson3 years ago

As reported by the Coloradoan, a Fort Collins, Colo. motorcyclist remains in critical condition at a Loveland hospital after a collision with a car on Sunday afternoon.

Details of the Fort Collins Motorcycle Crash

An initial report says Danny Pacheco, 48, was driving a 2012 Harley Davidson motorcycle and approached a curve at the same time as a car approached in the opposite direction. The motorcycle crossed over the center line and struck a Nissan Altima driven by a 72-year-old Longmont man. Pacheco was thrown from the motorcycle.

State Patrol says the accident happened at about 1 p.m. on Larimer County Rod 42C just north of CR23. Pacheco was taken to the Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland where he remains in critical condition.

Investigators say Pacheco was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Police do not believe drugs, alcohol, and speed to have been contributing factors.

Colorado Motorcycle Safety Facts

The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) estimates that in 2011, about one in five traffic fatalities were motorcyclists. About 36% of motorcyclist fatalities were under the influence of alcohol and almost two-thirds of riders killed were not wearing helmets.

CDOT advises riders to take safety precautions such as receiving proper training, always riding sober, and wearing protective gear.
