Concrete mixer truck crashed in North Dallas on Thursday, spilling conrete over the roadway. 

Details about the Accident Involving the Mixer Truck

An accident involving a cement mixer caused major tie-ups in North Dallas. Parts of two major highways are closed and another section is down to just one lane, according to CBS Local in Dallas.

At around lunch time Thursday, a cement mixing truck overturned and sat on its side on a ramp that led to the President George Bush Turnpike. At the time of the accident, the truck was loaded with cement and when it crashed and wet concrete poured out onto the westbound lanes of the Turnpike.

Police have since shut down affected areas.

By about 1:30 p.m., two large wreckers had arrived at the scene of the accident and were working to set the overturned cement truck upright again.

Crews from the North Texas Tollway Authority are also working to remove debris from the accident.

At about 3 p.m. this afternoon, the wreckers had stabilized the vehicle upright again, while crews worked to remove hardened cement from the roadway.

  • There were 10 cement truck/cement mixer truck accidents that resulted in fatalities in the United States in 2012.
  • Only one of those accidents involving a cement truck involved a fatality of a pedestrian.
  • There were 1153 fatal accidents in the United States in 2012 involving large trucks used for construction or manufacturing.
