Connecticut Woman Faces Felony Charges for Fatal Crash

In Hebro, Conn., a 50-year-old woman faces felony charges due to motor vehicle accident that took the life of a school teacher from RHAM Middle School earlier this year, according to several news outlets

About the Fatal Car Accident

According to the police, the accident happened in March in the parking lot of RHAM Middle School. Elizabeth Everett is reported as having struck 65-year-old Dawn Mallory while backing out of the parking lot into a school bus loading area. Mallory's sustained head injuries after her head struck the pavement. She died two weeks after the accident. Authorities say Everett turned herself in and is facing charges of misconduct with a motor vehicle and unsafe backing. Rockville Superior Court will review the case on August 12.

  • Injury rates due to car accidents increased 6.7% from 2011 to 2012.
  • 33,561 people died from motor vehicle accidents in 2012, which represents an increase of 3.3% from 2011 to 2012.
  • Accidents due to alcohol influence account for 31% of total motor vehicle fatalities. 
  • From 2011 to 2012 there was a 3.7% increase in car accidents involving large trucks.  
  • In 2012, 14.13% of motor vehicle fatalities involved pedestrians. 
  • Motor vehicle fatalities in intersections increased by 5.4% from 2011 to 2012, being the biggest increased among any other crash location.
