Tyler Kirchoff5 years ago

A California construction worker who broke his back in a ladder fall was recently awarded more than $9 million by a Los Angeles County jury.

The trial raised several issues involving workplace safety, premises liability, and negligent supervision.

Plaintiff Claimed Unsafe Work Environment

  • The 45-year-old construction worker was repairing the roof of an apartment complex when he fell 15 feet from a ladder.
  • He fractured several vertebrae in his back which required surgery and physical therapy to repair.
  • The jury found the company that owned the apartment building was negligent in failing to secure the ladder, failing to instruct its workers, and creating an unsafe work environment.
  • The plaintiff was awarded a $9.3 million for past and future medical costs and past and future pain and suffering.
