Construction Worker Gets $9M for Ladder Fall
A California construction worker who broke his back in a ladder fall was recently awarded more than $9 million by a Los Angeles County jury.
The trial raised several issues involving workplace safety, premises liability, and negligent supervision.
Plaintiff Claimed Unsafe Work Environment
- The 45-year-old construction worker was repairing the roof of an apartment complex when he fell 15 feet from a ladder.
- He fractured several vertebrae in his back which required surgery and physical therapy to repair.
- The jury found the company that owned the apartment building was negligent in failing to secure the ladder, failing to instruct its workers, and creating an unsafe work environment.
