Construction Worker Killed in Tyler Accident

A construction worker was fatally injured Thursday afternoon after falling from the third floor window of a building in Tyler, Texas.

About the Tyler Construction Accident

According to KTRE, 35-year-old Mark Castillo was climbing out of the window and into a wooden box attached to a lift when the box fell with Castillo in it. Castillo was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident occurred at a building site in the 300 block of West Heritage – the incident happened shortly after 12:20 pm.

Authorities are still investigating the accident.

Construction Accident Statistics

Following information provided by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA):

  • 4,405 workers were killed on the job in 2013.This translates to 85 deaths a week or more than 12 deaths every day.
  • Of those, 3,929 occurred in the private industry, and 796 were attributed to construction accidents.
  • The leading causes of death at construction sites were:
    • Falls
    • Struck by object
    • Electrocutions
    • Caught-in/between
  • These “fatal four” kill 468 workers in America every year.
