Details about the Accident Involving the Contractor

CBS News New York is reporting that a man was killed by his own construction van in an accident that happened on Monday morning in Central Park.

According to police, the accident happened at about 6:40 a.m. near the intersection of 74th Street and East Drive. Police were called to the scene of the accident by a supervisor at the site, who said he found the 56-year-old man from New Jersey pinned underneath his own construction truck.

Police say that the man was run over by the construction van when he opened the driver’s side door and fell out of the vehicle. The man then somehow got caught underneath the well of the van. The worker’s van was in reverse when the man lost his balance and fell.

The Parks Department indicated that the man was a contractor for MSM Empire Construction, which was hired to do work in the area for the Central Park Conservancy.

The identity of the victim has not been released, and the investigation is currently being conducted by the authorities.
