Corpus Christi Police Search for Hit-and-Run Driver

Authorities in Corpus Christi, Texas are searching for a hit-and-run driver who caused a three-car pile-up Tuesday evening.

About the Corpus Christi Pile-Up

According to KRIS-TV, the accident occurred on South Padre Island Drive late Tuesday night.

Preliminary reports indicate a pickup truck was involved in a single vehicle accident on the freeway. A second vehicle stopped to avoid the wrecked truck but was struck by a third vehicle.

Following the accident, the driver of the truck exited his vehicle and walked away from the accident. Authorities state the driver could face multiple charges once found.

  • 3,377 people were killed in auto accidents in Texas in 2013 – a 1.05-percent decrease from the 3,413 deaths recorded in 2012.
  • Another 232,041 people were injured in auto accidents with 89,270 people sustaining serious injuries.
  • Based on available crash data for 2013, TxDOT estimates:
    • One person was killed in an auto accident in Texas every 2 hours and 36 minutes,
    • One person was injured in an auto accident every 2 minutes and 16 seconds.
    • A reportable crash occurred every 71 seconds.
