Couple Sue over Infected Kidney Transplant
A Pennsylvania couple has filed two lawsuits stemming from an organ transplant surgery in which doctors transplanted the woman’s kidney into her boyfriend’s body despite the fact that she had tested positive for Hepatitis C. The lawsuits claim that the couple, who have been together 21 years, did not learn of the hepatitis C infection until one month after the transplant surgery.
About the Lawsuits
- Two separate medical malpractice lawsuits were filed against UPMC-Presbyterian hospital and University of Pittsburgh Physicians.
- Both lawsuits allege professional negligence, corporate negligence, intentional and negligent misrepresentation, and intentional and negligent infliction of emotional distress.
- The couple is asking for unspecified compensatory and punitive damages and a jury trial.
