Crane Accident Causes Delays in San Antonio
About the San Antonio Crane Accident
According to KSAT, the collapse occurred at the Highway 40 exit ramp towards south and northbound Interstate 35.
The exit was shut down for hours as crews worked to clear the scene and cleanup hydraulic fluid that had spilled across the roadway. The exit was reopened around 2:15 pm
Fortunately, no injuries or deaths were reported.
Crane Accident Statistics
- According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 72 crane-related workplace fatalities were recorded in 2006. Between 2003 and 2005 the annual average of was 78 deaths.
- 30 of the 2006 fatalities were caused by objects falling from a crane while only nine were caused by a worker being struck by the crane itself.

- From 2003 to 2006, Texas led the nation in occupational fatalities involving cranes.
