Cybex International has recalled about 400 units of their Olympic Decline free weight benches due to a possible impact injury hazard.

About the Free Weight Bench Recall

According to United States Consumer Product Safety Commission, the Olympic Decline free weight bench has been recalled because the frame on the bench can collapse forward onto the user, causing injury.

The affected benches have a steel frame with an upholstered pad where the user rests their back, and a rack that holds the 7-foot bar with weight plates. The unit’s model and serial number can be found on a decal that is attached to the tube located near where the user’s feet are placed while using the bench.

No injuries have been reported, but the firm has received 10 reports of frames breaking near the weld point.

Manufacturing Details

Benches involved in the recall were manufactured between December 2008 and September 2015, and have serial numbers C1208 through K0915.

Model numbers affected by the recall include

  • 16060
  • 16061
  • 16062
  • 16063

They were distributed from the Cybex direct sales force or from distributors directly to gyms nationwide for about $1,100 and were manufactured by Cybex International, Inc. of Medway, Mass.

Remedy for Customers

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled benches and contact Cybex to return the weight bench and to receive a free replacement unit.
