Daimler Recalls 1,663 Big Rig Trucks

Ariadna Cossio4 years ago

Daimler Trucks North America is recalling 1,663 Freightliner, Sterling, and Western Star 18-wheelers due to defective air tank mounting brackets which may fail and pose a road debris hazard to commuters.

“Air tanks that become separated from a moving vehicle may create a road debris hazard, increasing the risk of a crash,” National Highway Traffic Safety Association (NHTSA).

Air Tanks May Fall Off Trucks

According to the NHTSA, the brackets that attach the air tank to the vehicle are defective and could detach from the vehicle. If this were to occur while the vehicle were in motion, the air tanks could detach and pose a hazard to other vehicles on the road.

Daimler's recall is scheduled to begin in October; the company will replace the defective brackets free of charge. In the meantime, Daimler Trucks can be contacted at: 1-800-547-0712.  NHTSA can also be contacted at www.safecar.gov or at 1-888-327-4236.
