Residents of an East Dallas neighborhood are mourning the death of Jesus Rivas, who died Friday after his vehicle was struck by an oncoming dump truck.

Two Killed in Fatal Head-on Collision

“He was a sweet man. He worked hard. He worked all the time.” – a neighbor of Rivas’ as published by CBS-DFW

According to CBS-DFW, both Rivas and the driver of a dump truck were pronounced dead following a head-on collision on I-635 in Batch Springs.

Though authorities are still investigating the crash, it is believed that the dump truck driver crossed over the median and hit Rivas’ pickup truck on the southbound side of I-635 around 12:30 pm Sunday.

Rivas was the owner of the local business Del Dorte Bakery and was described by his employees as a father figure who was always trying to brighten up their days.
