DART Driver Killed in Accident

A bus driver for Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) was killed after being hit by a DART bus.

Details of the Fatal Accident

According to CBS-DFW, the occurred around 5 a.m on June 29. at the northwest operating station on the Webb Chapel Extension, near Bachman Lake. The man was taken to Parkland Hospital, but was pronounced dead about a half hour later.

The name of the man has not been released, but it is known that he had only been with DART since last November. The driver of the DART bus that had hit the man is a 55-year-old who had been with the company for 12 years.

The 55-year-old driver has had a clean record, but will be given a drug test and has been put on temporary leave. The incident is being investigated, although officials believe it was just a tragic accident.

  • In 2013, 3,408 people were killed in auto accidents that occurred on Texas roadways. This marked a .26-percent decrease from the 3,417 deaths recorded in 2012.
  • Pedestrian fatalities accounted for 493 deaths in 2013.
  • An additional 232,599 people were injured in auto accidents in 2013, with 16,807 people suffering serious injury
