Deadly Accident Kills 2, Injures 5

According to reports from KSAT Channel 12 News, a deadly vehicle accident occurred in Georgetown, Texas on Saturday.

The unfortunate incident happened on Highway 195 and resulted in two deaths and left five people injured

Details of the Fatal Georgetown Accident

According to police, a Chevrolet pickup ran a red light at the intersection of Highway 195 and Shell Road and was struck on the passenger side by a Ford pickup with five people inside.  

Two people were ejected from the Ford pickup. One of the victims who ejected died on the scene and the other person suffered undisclosed injuries. A passenger in the Chevrolet pickup also died on the scene.

Five people were taken to a nearby hospital following the accident. Authorities have reported that four are considered in stable condition and one is still in critical condition.

  • The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) recorded 3,377 traffic related fatalities for the year of 2013 – a 1.05 percent decrease from the 3,413 deaths recorded in 2012.
  • Collisions along rural roads accounted for 1,883 deaths and collisions at or relating to intersections accounted for 767 deaths.
  • Another 232,041 people were injured in auto accidents with 89,270 people sustaining serious injuries.
  • Using available crash information, TxDOT estimates that:
    • One death occurred every 2 hours and 36 minutes
    • One injury occurred every 2 minutes and 16 seconds.
    • A reportable crash occurred every 71 seconds.
