Delaware Motorcycle Accident Kills One, Injures Another

A deadly accident happened on Sunday afternoon in Georgetown, Delaware on U.S. 113 (known locally as Du Pont Road) involving a three-wheeled motorcycle and a car, according to Delaware Online.

Details of the Motorcycle Accident

A statement given to reporters by state police Cpl. John Day describes the details of the fatal crash.

  • The accident happened at approximately 3:40 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. A 2005 Honda GL8 driven by Bobby Luzader, 78 was traveling north on U.S. 113 near Speedway Road. A 1996 Lincoln Town Car driven by Marianne Worley, 78, was traveling in the opposite direction and attempted to make a left-hand turn onto Speedway Road.
  • The Lincoln Town Car crossed into the path of the oncoming motorcycle. The driver of the motorcycle swerved to avoid the car but was struck on the left side, splitting the motorcycle in half.
  • The driver of the motorcycle and his passenger, Jane Kauffman, 65, were both ejected.
  • The Lincoln Town Car came to rest against a tree.
Motorcyclist Pronounced Dead

Luzader was transported by helicopter to Kent General Hospital where he was stabilized before being taken to Christiana Hospital. He is listed in serious condition.

Kauffman was taken by ambulance to Beebe Healthcare hospital and then transported by helicopter to Christiana Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Worley was treated for minor injuries and later released.

According to police, both motorcycle riders were wearing helmets at the time of the crash. No charges have currently been filed while police investigate the crash.
