One person is dead and five others were injured after a Detroit commuter bus crashed into the side of a building.

About the Fatal Detroit Bus Accident

Between 6:30 and 7 a.m. Tuesday on Detroit’s east side, a DDOT bus crashed into the side of a building. The accident killed the driver while also trapping injured passengers inside the bus.

Reports say the bus was travelling east on Warren when the driver swerved into a building outside Sanders Dry Cleaning. The accident caused the building to partially collapse.

Police shut down Warren St due to the number of EMS and Fire crews waiting in the road. There were also utility crews on the scene due to a damaged gas line from the crash.

Sergeant Eren Stephens reports that five passengers were injured in the crash.

Witness Recalls Bus Detroit Accident

Passenger, Brandi Torbert, stated that the driver seemed “perfectly fine and then we thought he was going on the other side to do a detour and turn down a street and then he just ran into the building. It happened so fast.”

Torbert said the passengers tried to kick the bus door, but it was stuck so they all climbed out of the emergency window.

Although Torbert was not injured, she said, “One passenger bust his whole face, like his blood was leaking everywhere. Another passenger bust his mouth open.”

The driver of the bus has not been immediately released. The investigation for the crash is ongoing.
