Discount Tire Recalls 80,000 Replacement Tires

adriana_trevino1 year ago

Discount Tire, a major tire retailer, has recalled over 80,000 replacement tires due to a risk of tread separation.

About the Discount Tire Recall

On Tuesday, Discount Tires announced that it is recalling roughly 80,000 light truck and SUV replacement tires, according to WZZM. The recall is focused on Pathfinder brand tires manufactured between August 2013 and May 2015.

This recall was intitiated by Discount Tire after the company noticed premature tread separation on some Pathfinder tires. Testing revealed that the rubber coating used between the two steel belts of the Pathfinder tires was not thick enough.

Should the steel belts crack or fracture, the tread could separate from the tire resulting in a greatly increased risk of a crash.

Fortunately, there have been no reports of deaths or injuries regarding this recall. Nonetheless, Discount Tire will either replace or offer refunds for all defective tires

Tire Failure Statistics
