Jonathan Hernandez8 months ago

April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month, and today on the blog, we take a look at the rise of wrongful deaths among teenagers attributed to distracted driving.

Distracted Driving among Teenagers

KHOU News in Houston is reporting that, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety, three teenagers from the Houston area were killed on their way back from Corpus Christi during the weekend after Spring Break because the driver was distracted.

According to officials, the driver was using the GPS function on their cell phone in the moments leading up to the accident..

Suc occurances are not uncommon. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention indicates that about one-third of all teenagers who die in the United States every year lose their lives in motor vehicle accidents. When it comes to motor vehicle accidents, about 10 percent of all teenage drivers in 2013 were reported to have been distracted by something at the time of the accident.

Important Information about Distracted Drivers

Nearly 5,000 people are killed every year in the United States as a result of someone driving while distracted, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The CDC recommends that families make a pledge together to commit to avoid distractions while driving.

The CDC also recommends that parents set a positive example to their children and completely refrain from cell phone use while driving a motor vehicle.
