Dove Chocolate Recalled Due to Nut Cross-Contamination
Dove-brand chocolate snowflakes were recalled Friday due to cross contamination concerns with peanut products.
Details of the Dove Recall
According to CNN, it is believed that the dove chocolate were mixed in with Snickers, Milky Way and or Twix pieces, posing a severe risk to those with peanut and nut allergies.
The manufacturer is recalling about 6,700 packages sold in the U.S. and it could also affect customers with milk or wheat allergies.
There have been reports of “adverse reactions” according to Mars Chocolate North America. The company became aware of the issue when a customer found a Snickers inside a bag of Dove Chocolate Assortment Snowflakes.
The company is working to remove the products from store shelves and is encouraging customers with potential allergy issues to return them for a refund.
Symptoms of Peanut Allergy
According to Mayo Clinic, early symptoms of a peanut allergy can include:
- Runny nose
- Skin reactions
- Stomach cramps
- Nausea and vomiting
- Tightening of the Throat
- Shortness of breath
Should anaphylaxis occur, individuals may show signs of:
- Constricted airways
- Swelling of the throat
- Severe drop in blood pressure
- Rapid pulse
- Dizziness and loss of consciousness
Anaphylaxis is a life-threatening reaction which should be immediately treated with a epinephrine injector followed by a visit to the emergency room.
