DPS Trooper Hurt in Multi-Vehicle Accident

An Arizona Department of Public Safety trooper and two others were injured following a three-vehicle accident on Interstate 10 on Thursday.

ABC 15 News is reporting that an Arizona Department of Public Safety trooper was slightly injured at around 3 p.m. on Thursday just west of Avondale Boulevard.

Authorities that responded to the scene of the accident report that one of the drivers was ejected from the vehicle and another person was also taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.

According to the Department of Public Safety, a trooper with the DPS had pulled over a car during a routine traffic stop. As the trooper was at his car completing paperwork, a Hyundai SUV driver lost control of the vehicle and collided with the patrol car.

The impact of the accident forced the patrol car into the car that the trooper had just pulled over. After this happened, a commercial vehicle lost control and hit the center median wall before hitting the Hyundai.

An occupant of the commercial vehicle was ejected into lanes of oncoming traffic and is currently in critical condition.

The trooper sustained non-life threatening injuries. The names of the injured parties have were not immediately available.
