6 ABC News is reporting that a driver has been charged with DUI after four people were sent to the hospital after an accident at Delaware toll plaza.

According to police, the accident happened around 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday in the north lanes on Interstate 95 in Newark. Police further said that 31-year-old matt Rude, of Virginia, was driving a 2000 Cadillac when he failed to stop the vehicle as he entered the toll booth area and hit the rear end of a Dodge Durango.

The impact of the accident left one 51-year-old female passenger trapped in the Durango and had to be rescued from the wreckage by fire officials using the Jaws of Life. The woman was treated at the scene of the accident and then taken to the hospital in stable condition.

A 19-year-old passenger in the Cadillac was treated at the scene of the accident for a head injury and abdominal pain before she was transported to the hospital in serious but stable condition.

Two others were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the vehicle, Matt Rude, was taken in for questioning and charged with DUI.
