Destiny Baker3 years ago

The Corpus Christi Police Department has released a report showing that incidents of driving while intoxicated are on the rise in Corpus Christi.

Corpus Christi DWI on the Rise

According to the Corpus Christi Caller-Times, the report cited 1,158 DWI incidents before Dec. 18 – an 18 percent increase from last year.

According to the police report, Corpus Christi has recorded 10 alcohol-related fatalities so far this year including intoxicated pedestrian fatalities.

Police have acknowledged that DWI has been a growing problem in the city since 2011 when 900 DWI arrests were recorded.

District Attorney Mark Skurka has initiated a service in which a phlebotomist will obtain blood samples from suspected drunk drivers that refuse a breathalyzer following acquisition of a signed warrant.

Free cab services are also being offered to intoxicated residents from Dec. 27-28 and New Year’s Eve in an effort to curb further drunk driving incidents.
