A total of eight people were injured in a Hebron bus crash last week.

Details about the Hebron bus Crash

A Lavigne Bus Co. Inc. bus crashed into a utility pole on State Highway 106 in Hebron last Friday, sending eight people to medical facilities, according to the Daily Union.

The crash occurred at 7:18 a.m., approximately two-tenths of a mile west of Johnson Road. According to reports from deputies and medical technicians on the scene, there were eight occupants in the vehicle. After further investigations, it was discovered that there were seven passengers and a driver in the bus at the time of the crash.

The bus was traveling west on Highway 106 when it went across the eastbound lane and rolled over in the south ditch, striking a utility pole. The Fort Atkinson Fire Department Rescue Squad and Ryan Brothers Ambulance responded to the scene, along with several ambulance services: Dousman EMS, Jefferson EMS, Jefferson Fire Department, Whitewater Rescue, Janesville EMS, Johnson Creek Fire and EMS, Cambridge EMS, Palmyra EMS, Lake Mills EMS and the Jefferson County Mass Casualty trailer.

Initially, it was too dangerous for emergency personnel to approach the bus due to the downed utility pole and wires hanging over the vehicle, Fort Atkinson Fire Department Capt. Tom Gerondale said. Power was shut off to a total of 444 area residents to allow safety personnel access to the scene and to ensure helicopters could safely land on the roadway, We Energies spokesperson Cathy Schulze said. Power was off for just over an hour, and was restored to all but four residents around 10 a.m.

Schulze said power wouldn’t be restored to the last four residents for several hours. We Energies had to replace the pole and at least one of the wires at the scene.

Two of the vehicle’s passengers were transported to hospitals from the scene via helicopter. The remaining six patients were transported to area hospitals via ambulance.

The Jefferson County major investigation team and the Wisconsin State Patrol are investigating the accident.
