Elderly Man Causes Automobile Crash East of San Antonio

According to the San Antonio Express-News, a major crash occurred east of San Antonio on Monday, October 27th, when an elderly man drove his car the wrong way while heading east in the westbound lanes of U.S. 87 near Loop 106.

About the Automobile Accident

Several vehicles were able to avert the elderly driver, but a driver in a pickup could not get out of the way soon enough and collided with Pate head-on.

Bexar County Sheriff’s Office Spokesman, James Keith, reported that the driver of the pickup truck sustained life-threatening injuries and was flown by helicopter to University Hospital. The elderly man sustained minor injuries and was taken to Mission Trails Baptist Hospital.

Earl Pate, who was driving on the U.S. 87 before the crash reported narrowly missing the elderly man’s car and heard a loud crash behind him.

    • One person was killed in an auto accident in Texas every 2 hours and 36 minutes.
    • One person was injured in an auto accident every 2 minutes and 16 seconds.
    • A reportable crash occurred every 71 seconds.
