Elderly Pueblo Man Killed in Fremont Collision

An elderly resident of Pueblo was killed on Saturday evening in a two-vehicle collision in Fremont County.

Details about the Accident Involving the Elderly Man

The Daily Record Colorado is reporting that a 79-year-old resident of Pueblo died on Saturday evening in a two-vehicle accident on U.S. 50 is Fremont County.

According to the Colorado State Patrol, the accident happened at about 7:20 p.m. in Fremont County.

The victim, Esequiel Garduno was driving his 1998 Chevrolet 2500 pickup truck heading east on U.S. 50 when 50-year-old Michael Adams from Colorado Springs was driving west in the left lane.

According to Authorities, the Chevrolet collided head-on with Adams’ vehicle. Both of the vehicles came to a rest in the middle of the westbound lanes after the initial impact.

Esequiel was wearing his seat belt at the time of the accident, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other driver, Adams, was flown to St. Mary Corwin in Pueblo with serious injuries. The passenger in the front seat was taken to St. Thomas More Hospital with minor injuries. The two children in the back of their vehicle were not injured in the accident.

According to the Colorado State Patrol, everyone in the Adams vehicle were wearing their seat belts.

The Colorado State Patrol indicated in a press release that they do not believe that alcohol or drugs were a factor in the accident.

  • Men are 10 percent less likely to wear their seat belts that women.
  • Seat belts reduce serious crash injuries by about 50 percent.
  • Airbags also provide added protection but they are not a substitute to seat belts, but a compliment.
