A Dimmit County jury has awarded the family of Carlos Aguilar $281 million in a wrongful death lawsuit against Heckmann Water Resources.

About the Eagle Shale Ford Lawsuit

According to the San Antonio Express-News, Aguilar, 31, was killed May 29, 2012 when a driveshaft assembly detached from a tractor-trailer and crashed through the windshield of the truck that the U.S. Army veteran was traveling in.

The truck, belonging to Heckmann Water Resources located near San Antonio, Texas, was conducting work in the Eagle Shale Ford near Catalina, Texas in Demmit County.

The lawsuit alleged Heckmann Water Resources negligent in the accident as they had failed to properly maintain the truck, resulting in the driveshaft assembly breaking off.

The jury found in favor of Aguilar’s family awarding them $281 million including $100 million punitive damages.
