Family of 6 Die in Mission Car Crash

San Antonio Express News reports that a family of six is dead after a traffic accident at a busy intersection in Mission, Texas on Monday.

About the Mission Texas Traffic Accident

  • Police report a man driving a vehicle that was identified as stolen attempted to evade arrest leading to a police chase.
  • While fleeing from police, the driver failed to stop at a red light and barreled into a busy intersection.
  • The suspect’s vehicle then collided with the family’s vehicle as well as at least two other vehicles.
  • Police report the suspect was traveling in excess of 100 mph leading up to the collision.

After the Accident

  • The collision resulted in the deaths of a family of six. Driver Jose U. Ortiz, age not released, and his wife Olga Olivia Morales Cardoza, 35, died on impact along with their children Elia, 1, Fernando, 3, Jose, 6, and Ricardo, age unavailable.
  • At least three others involved in the crash were taken to McAllen Medical Center due to their injuries.
  • The suspect, whose name has yet to be released, attempted to flee the scene, but was later arrested.
  • The suspect was treated for minor injuries.
