Connecticut Student Struck and Killed by Bus

  • David Plamondon, 20, was killed after being struck and run over by a university shuttle bus driven by student Lukasz Gilewski, 21.
  • According to witnesses, Gilewski was waiving to another bus driver while making a left hand turn before hitting Plamondon who was walking in a crosswalk.
  • The bus ran over Plamondon with both its front and rear. The student died at the scene.
  • Gilewski pleaded no contest to negligent vehicular homicide and was sentenced to two years probation.

Connecticut Students Family Brings Lawsuit

  • Plamondon’s parents brought a lawsuit against the state of Connecticut in 2011.
  • The family claimed that the state was negligent through its employ and that the young student should not have been operating the shuttle.
  • The state settled the suit before trial by paying $5.5 million to the family.
  • Plamondon’s parents are still urging the state to end the student bus driver program.
