Fatal ATV Accident in Tenn.

A White Falls, Tenn. man was killed on Monday evening after an ATV he was riding left the roadway and crashed down an embankment in South Cheatham, Tenn., according to a report in the Tennessean.

About the Fatal ATV Accident

The accident happened at about 5 p.m. in the 1200 block of Leatherwood Road in South Cheatham County, Tenn. Reports say Wade M. Glick, 37, was riding an ATV westbound on Leatherwood Road and failed to properly navigate a turn.

The ATV left the roadway, went down an embankment, struck a tree and came to rest in a creek bed. The body was Glick was found face down in water.

Authorities investigating the accident do not believe alcohol was a contributing factor.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) notes that there were an estimated 107,500 ATV-related injuries treated in emergency rooms in the U.S. in 2011. Of those injured, about 27 percent (29,000) were injuries sustained by children under the age of 16. About 327 people were killed in ATV accidents in 2011.

Between 1982 and 2011, the CPSC tallied a total of 11,688 ATV-related fatalities in the U.S.
