Fatal Crash Victim Identified in San Angelo

The man who was killed in a fatal hit-and-run in San Angelo on Saturday night has been identified as Eulalio Canel Giron, 69.

Details of the San Angelo Hit-and-Run

According to the Standard-Times, Eulalio Canel Giron was driving northbound in a Pontiac Grand Am when a GMC Yukon slammed into the passenger side of his car at East 19th and Marx streets.

Giron failed to yield right of way and entered the intersection, colliding with the Yukon. He was pronounced dead at 11:24 p.m. at Shannon Medical Center. The driver of the GMC, Bernardo Ponce-Ponce, 19, left the crash scene before police arrived, but police found him in north San Angelo.

Ponce-Ponce is being held at the Tom Green County Jail as of noon Monday with a $25,000 bail. The crash is still under investigation.

Both Giron and Ponce-Ponce had passengers who experienced injuries and were taken to the nearest hospital. Armando Cervantes , 24, accompanied Giron while Yecenia Sanchez, 21, accompanied Ponce-Ponce.
