Details about the Fatal Accident near Parkton

The Fayette Observer is reporting that a Fayetteville woman is at fault after a fatal wreck that happened on Tuesday morning on N.C. 71 at Leeper Road.

The accident happened at around 6:50 a.m. just about a mile to the east of Parkton and four more miles south of Hope Mills, reports Trooper B.L. Bullard.

The woman, 37-year-old Wanda Hall, was driving a gold Chevrolet Impala and travelling east, toward U.S. 301, when her vehicle crossed over the center line. The Impala then sideswiped another driver that was headed west in a silver pickup with dual rear wheels being driven by 48-year-old Emery Delong, of Raeford.

At this point, it is not known what caused Bullard to cross over the center line.

The impact of the sideswipe sent the Impala across the road through a deep drainage ditch and into a cotton field. The driver of the truck lost control, crossed the center and hit a GMC sport utility vehicle head on – killing 27-year-old Bryant Evan Chacon.

Chacon was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Hall was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in serious condition.
