Feds Investigate Defective Side Airbags

Yesenia Martinez5 years ago

Federal safety regulators at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) are investigating defective airbags which have prompted the recall of more than 2,700 Toyota, Nissan, Honda, and Subaru vehicles. Recalls may increase if the NHTSA learns about additional makers using same parts.

According to recall reports, the airbags in affected vehicles may possess an ineffective mixture of the gas that inflates the side curtain air bags in an auto crash. All four companies (Toyota, Nissan, Honda, and Subaru) are said to have used airbag propellant manufactured by Autoliv Inc.

Investigations into the propellant continue, and regulators have stated that more recalls could be on the way if it is discovered that other auto makers received the defective propellant from Autoliv.
