Fiat Chrysler Adds Maseratis to Gear Shift Recall Following Actor’s Death

According to the Wall Street Journal, Fiat Chrysler is adding thousands of more vehicles to the 1.1 million vehicles that were recalled last April.

About the Fiat Chrysler Gear-Shift Recall

Star Trek actor Anton Yelchin died last Sunday after getting pinned against a mail box pillar by his 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The SUV has been known to have a confusing gear shifter.

Due to the fact Fiat Chrysler produces other vehicles with similar gear shifters under the Maserati brand, they have decided to add thousands of Quattroportes and Ghibli sedans to the millions of vehicles recalled worldwide last April.

The 1.1 million Fiat Chryslers were recalled in response to drivers’ complaints of not being able to tell if the car was in “park” upon coming to a stop.

Maserati has stated it has decided to do the recall, despite the fact that they have not received any complaints of cars rolling away unexpectedly.

Description of the Recalled Vehicles

  • The recall involves 13,000 Maseratis, the 2014 and 2015 Quattroporte, and the Ghibli sedans.
  • The vehicles have the same gear shifters as the 1.1 million that were recalled last April.
