Fiat Chrysler Expands Takata Recall

Destiny Baker2 years ago

Fiat Chrysler has announced that it will be expanding its Takata airbag recall to cover an additional 3.3 million vehicles.

About the Fiat Chrysler Recall

According to The Consumerist, the announcement came about two weeks after Fiat Chrysler announced another expansion covering 209,000 vehicles. That recall, however, was limited to Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas.

The newest recall will cover the entire United States as well as Canada, Mexico, and several other countries across the globe. Roughly 2.89 million of the newly recalled vehicles were sold in the U.S.

Fiat Chrysler is the latest automaker to adhere to demands from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that all Takata recalls be made national. BMW is the only automaker still enacting regional recalls.

Reports indicate that the airbags manufactured by Takata may rupture upon deployment, shooting metal shards and pieces of plastic throughout vehicle cabins. Five deaths and dozens of injuries have been linked to the defective airbags.
