According to the Detroit News, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is questioning why Chrysler has issued 20 recalls cover over 10 million vehicles since 2013.

Details of the Hearing

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has told Fiat Chrysler that they would have to attend a hearing on July 2nd.

This kind of action by NHTSA does not normally happen but in this case they want to know why they have had too recall so many models.  Chrysler has been very compliant with NHTSA; they have issued a statement that they will present all documents as soon as they put them all in order.

NHTSA asked for Chrysler to make these documents and they refused to do that.  But Chrysler is willing to work with NHTSA; as NHTSA tries to insure that they repairs are being properly.

Once the hearing is over, NHTSA could order Chrysler to pay fines, buy back the cars that are unsafe, or speed up the repair process.

Description of the Fiat Chrysler Recall

  • Chrysler had to recall over 2.7 million Jeeps for a defect that can result in gas tank fires.
  • The defect has been linked to 50 deaths.
  • These deaths were caused when vehicles were hit from behind.
