Five Injured, Including Children, in Two-Vehicle Accident in Washington

A two-car crash in Deer Park, Washington, injured five people at Highway 395 and Crawford Road on Wednesday.

KXLY News in Spokane has reported that emergency crews responded to the scene of the two-car accident that injured five people on Wednesday.

According to Captain Megan Hill of the Spokane County Fire District 4, the accident happened just after 3 p.m.

Washington State Patrol elaborated and said that 20-year-old Nikita Lesnykh of Medical Lake was driving his Toyota Corolla north on the highway. When he approached Crawford Road, he attempted to make a U-turn in front of a pickup truck. The truck then hit the car and sent the Toyota into a ditch where it landed on its roof.

Washington State Police said that Lesnykh and his 16-year-old female passenger were both taken to the hospital via ambulance. Two children, ages 10 and 6, were air lifted to from the scene of the accident with life-threatening injuries. Lesnykh was released from the hospital on Wednesday night.

According to Washington State Police, the driver of the pickup was also taken to the hospital, but he was conscious and talking at the scene of the accident.

The highway was shut down for more than three hours while the accident was being investigated. Charges are pending since the U-turn was an illegal turn.
