NBC News is reporting that five people were killed in a two-vehicle collision that happened on a rainy Sunday in Texas, according to authorities.

The accident that happened on Mother’s Day, took place just southwest of Austin in the town of Dripping Springs at around 2 p.m.

According to police, a vehicle lost control on Highway 290 and spun around into oncoming traffic, where it was then hit by another vehicle. One woman and two men that crossing into the wrong lane were killed at the scene of the accident, according to police. Two women in the other car also died, one at the scene of the accident, and the other at a local hospital, police further stated.

There were a total of two people that survived the accident – one person from each vehicle – both of the survivors were sent to the hospital in critical condition. A sergeant from the police department stated that it was raining at the time of the accident, so they believe the rain was one of the causes of the crash.
