A Florida man was critically injured Thursday morning when he was struck by a tractor-trailer.

About the Semi-Truck Accident in Ocala

According to the Ocala Star Banner, 72-year-old Gardner Spencer is in critical condition at Ocala Regional Medical Center.

Florida Highway Patrol reports that Spencer was injured by a semi-truck as he rode his bicycle down U.S. 27 just west of Ocala on Thursday morning. According to a press release by the Florida Highway Patrol, Spencer was headed east on the paved shoulder of the highway nearing Northwest 55th Avenue around 10:40 a.m.

30-year-old Jason Taverez of Orlando, Florida was traveling the same direction in his 2007 International semi-truck when the side of his semi-truck struck the bicycle.

Gardner Spencer was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, and an ongoing investigation and possible charges are pending.
