A Florida man was hit and killed by a train in Royal Oak over the weekend.

Important Information about the Accident Involving the Train

FOX 2 News Detroit is reporting that the Royal Oak police is currently investigating a pedestrian accident that happened to take the life of a 26-year-old man from Florida.

According to police, at around 12:50 a.m. on Saturday morning, police responded to the call at the CN Railroad crossing at the intersection of South Main and Sixth Street about a report of a train and pedestrian accident.

The initial investigation indicated that the 26-year-old male from Florida ignored the lowered crossing arm and attempted to cross the tracks in the face of an oncoming AMTRAK train.

Witnesses at the scene of the accident say that the train was blowing its horn and that the crossing was active and working correctly at the time of the accident. The victim was taken to the William Beaumont Hospital by the Royal Oak Fire Department where he was pronounced dead.

The identity of the victim has not been released until his family can be properly notified of his passing.

The CN Railroad Police, the Royal Oak Police Department, and the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office are all working together to investigate the accident. At this point in the investigation, it is unknown whether or not alcohol was a factor in the accident.
