Police in Florida are still searching for the driver responsible for a fatal hit-and-run that left two dead in Pine Hills, Florida on Sunday.

Two Killed in Pine Hills Hit-and-Run

According to the Orlando Sentinel, two women were killed after a Volkswagen SUV ran a red light and struck the driver’s side of a Toyota sedan at the intersection of North Pine Hills Road and Balboa Drive.

The impact crushed the Toyota sedan, killing the two women inside. The driver of the Toyota was identified as Veronica Williams, 53, and the passenger as her neighbor, Bessie Anderson, 78

The driver of the Volkswagen fled the scene on foot, leaving behind his passenger, 24-year-old Shane Kizzy Joseph, who suffered minor injuries.

Passenger Claims She Doesn’t Know Hit-and-Run Driver

Joseph claimed that the driver had picked her up at a bus stop and she did not know who the driver was.

A check of the Volkswagen’s registration, however, showed that the vehicle belonged to Joseph’s sister.

Court records also indicated the Joseph had had her license suspended after failing to pay fines for multiple traffic violations.

Police are requesting surveillance video from businesses and residences near the intersection in hopes that the footage could help to identify the driver.
