FMCSA Orders Shut Down of Phoenix-based Bus Company Citing Passenger Safety

Destiny Baker3 years ago

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has ordered that Autobuses Rayon, Inc. of Phoenix, Arizona shut down and discontinue all transportation operations.

About the Bus Company Shutdown

“Every traveler on our highways and roads is entitled to reach his or her destination safely. Bus companies that ignore vital safety rules will not be allowed to operate.” – U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx as published by the FMCSA

According to the FMCSA, Autobuses Rayon must cease all passenger transportation services following reports that the bus company endangered the traveling public and failed to ensure the safety of vehicles and drivers.

The agency claimed that Autobuses Rayon allowed at least three unsafe companies previously closed by the FMCSA to continue operating with registration markings of Phoenix-based company.

The order is one of 52 shut down orders that have come as part of “Operation Quick Strike” enacted by the FMCSA in April.

Other Autobuses Rayon Violations

  • Failure to manage proper inspection, repair and maintenance of vehicles.
  • Failure to conduct random drug and alcohol screenings on drivers.
  • Failure to ensure drivers were qualified and properly licensed.
  • Failure to ensure that all drivers adhere to federal hours-of-service limitation to prevent driver fatigue.
