FMCSA Shuts Down 52 Bus Companies in “Operation Quick Strike”

Destiny Baker3 years ago

According to the Daily Finance, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has ordered the shutdown of 52 bus companies due to safety violations including poorly maintained vehicles and overworked drivers.

Operation Quick Strike

In April, the FMCSA began its investigation into 250 bus companies as part of “Operation Quick Strike” which focused on motor coach companies with poor safety records.

The probe was launched in response to major crashes involving carriers that continued to operate despite unsatisfactory safety records.

In efforts to stream line the investigations, the FMCSA trained more than 50 new inspectors as they rushed to regain the public’s trust following harsh criticism from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Of more than 1,300 buses inspected, the FMCSA removed 340 from service, at least temporarily.

Only one company was shut down following a death, Kansas based Midnight Express, the rest were closed due to safety violations.
