Ford Issues Recalls Affecting 1.3 Million Cars, SUVs

Tina Robinson2 years ago

Ford Motor Company has recently issued four separate recalls which affect approximately 1.3 million vehicles, according to USA Today.

Description of the SUV Steering Defect Recall

Ford is recalling approximately 915,527 Ford Escapes and Mercury Mariners with model years 2008 to 2011 as well as 195,527 Ford Explorers with model years 2011 to 2013 due to a potential steering defect. Ford says a problem with the torque sensor in the steering gear is caused by an intermittent electrical connection and can result in a loss of power steering.

The issue has been under investigation involving the Escape since 2009. Recently, Transport Canada opened its own investigation into the steering problems. In January, Ford released a repair kit.

Additional Ford Recalls

Also being recalled is approximately 196,639 Ford Taurus sedans with model years 2010 to 2014 due to a potential fire hazard. Ford says a lit that illuminates the license plate can corrode and cause a short circuit that may cause a fire.

The company is also recalling floor mats that were sold through Ford dealerships that can potentially jam under gas pedals. The floor mats affected were sold for 2006-2011 Ford Fusion, Lincoln MXZ and related vehicles.
