Ford Recalls Nearly 46,000 Ford Edge Crossovers

Destiny Baker3 years ago

Ford Motor Co. has issued a recall for nearly 46,000 Forde Edge crossovers worldwide following concerns that fuel leaks could potentially lead to fires.

Details of the Ford Edge Recall

  • According to the Detroit News, the recall covers 2012 and 2013 Edge crossovers built between September 2010 and April 2013 and equipped with 2.0L engines.
  • Roughly 27,800 of the recalled vehicles were sold in the U.S. and 3,400 in Canada. The rest were sold in the Europe, Mexico and the Asia Pacific region.
  • According to Ford, the metal housing of the fuel line pulse damper can crack as the result of a faulty manufacturing process. Such a crack can result in seepage or a continuous leak.
  • Should the leaked fuel come in contact with a heat source, it could easily result in a fire.

Current Claims and Previous Recalls

  • Ford has stated that it is aware of 24 claims of fuel leaks following a previous recall in 2012, and none of the new claims have occurred in 5,499 vehicles affected by that recall.

    • Nonetheless, Ford opted to include the previously recalled vehicles in the new recall.
  • A separate recall was issued for 400 2011 and 2012 Ford Explorer SUVs which may have a defective steering gear.
  • Due to a software error, the steering gear may become locked, preventing drivers from being able to steer the vehicles which may increase the risk of crash.
