About the Indianapolis Drunk Driving Accident

  • On August 6, 2010, while en route to assist in a non-emergency call, former Indianapolis police officer David Bisard collided with a group of motorcyclists killing Eric Wells, 30, and injuring two others.
  • Among the evidence were blood samples showing that Bisard had a blood alcohol level of 0.22 percent; however, the defense argued that the blood samples were mishandled and were not taken by a hospital technician.
  • Both the defense and prosecution called witnesses to the stand offering conflicting testimonies. The two motorcyclists injured in the accident, Mary Mills and Kurt Weekly were unable to provide testimony as their injuries had resulted in memory loss.
  • After seven hours of deliberation, the jury came back with a guilty verdict on all 9 charges facing Bisard including operating a motor vehicle with a blood-alcohol content of 0.15 percent or higher causing death, Operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated causing bodily injury and reckless homicide.
  • Sentencing is scheduled for November 26.
