Four family members were killed in an accident that happened in Carthage.

Details about the Fatal Accident

WKYT News is reporting that a local church held a special service in honor of one of the families that called the church their home. 46-year-old Israel Avelar and his three sons, 17-year-old Kevin Avelar, 14-year-old Daniel Avelar, and 6-year-old Matthew Avelar were all killed in a car accident that happened in Carthage, which is near Tyler on Highway 315.

Reportedly, the family’s vehicle was slowing down in order to make left turn, but the sport utility vehicle behind them did not slow down. The Avelar’s vehicle was rear-ended by the SUV, and the force of the impact pushed their vehicle into an oncoming tractor-trailer.

Three other family members were in the vehicle at the time of the accident but survived the crash.

The pastor of their church has been getting updates on the conditions of the surviving family members and stated that Israel’s wife, Hilda, remains in critical condition, their daughter, Kimberly, is in stable condition, and Israel’s mother, Lazara is in fair condition.
