Four Injured in Bastrop Pile-Up

At least four people were injured in Bastrop, Texas Tuesday morning as a result of a nine-car pile-up.

About the Bastrop Pile-Up

According to the Austin American-Statesman, the incident occurred at the intersection of Tahitian Drive and Texas 71 around 10:30 am.

In total, nine vehicles were involved in the pile-up including two 18-wheelers. Four individuals were transported to the hospital for treatment with one requiring life flight.

Authorities have not commented on the cause of the accident and state the investigation is ongoing.

Following information provided by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT):

  • 3,377 people were killed in auto accidents in 2013, marking a 1.05 percent decrease from the 3,413 traffic related deaths recorded in 2012.
  • An additional 232,041 people were injured in auto accidents with 89,270 people sustaining serious injuries.
  • Using available crash data, TxDOT estimates:
    • One person was killed in an auto accident every 2 hours and 36 minutes.
    • One person was injured every 2 minutes and 16 seconds.
    • A reportable crash occurred every 71 seconds.
