Garage Collapse near Katy, Texas Leaves Dozens Injured
About the Harris County Garage Collapse
The collapse occurred at a residence outside of Katy, Texas located on Park Mill Lane and Park Brush Lane. Authorities told reporters that the second floor of the garage collapsed into the first floor, leaving approximately 100 people injured.
A makeshift triage was set up in the driveway of the home as emergency crews tended to the injured. Reports say at least 30 people were transported to area hospitals including Texas Children’s, Katy Memorial, and Methodist West. Injuries sustained by victims ranged from “minor cuts and abrasions to significant blunt trauma.” At least six children were injured in the collapse.
Neighbors told reporters that a party was being held at the home. A letter distributed to neighboring homes notified that a religious celebration would be held at the residence from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday with about 150 guests expected. The letter apologized in advance for any inconvenience caused by the gathering.
