A two-year-old has died in a car crash early Sunday morning on Interstate 85 in Georgia.

Details about the Fatal Car Accident involving the Infant

The Montgomery Advertiser is reporting that an infant was killed in a two-vehicle crash early Sunday morning after a car collided into the back of a disabled tractor-trailer on the southbound lanes of Interstate 85, according to police.

2-year-old Elijah Baird, of Georgia, was killed when the 2014 Nissan Versa he was riding in had veered off the road between Chantilly Parkway and Wares Ferry Road.

After veering off the road, the Nissan hit a disabled 1998 International 18-wheeler that was parked just off the right shoulder of the interstate.

The Montgomery Police Department and Fire crews arrived at the scene at about 6:45 a.m. after they were notified of the accident.

The infant was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The driver of the Nissan did sustain non-life-threatening injuries, and there were no injuries that were reported to the driver of the tractor-trailer.

The exact cause of the accident remain under investigation.
